Mad about Monet, BBC2, 1999

This was a quirky but fascinating programme in which every aspect of Monet as a trendy cultural phenomenon as well as Impressionist painter was explored. In addition to talking about his techniques with his late paintings of his famous garden, I found myself reflecting (get it?) on the darker side of the world of fakes and forgeries and the whole ethical side of making a living as an artist. However, the real world of forgery is not glamorous or funny, but that’s another story for another time – maybe the subject of a long-overdue TV documentary that tackles this shady world head-on?????
