A fake in the style of Vermeer. I’ve used various elements and visual clues from his paintings and created a whole new interior scene. I wanted this painting to have the beautiful light that typifies his paintings and to capture some of that slightly mysterious atmosphere that many of them have too. Very difficult, like writing a play in the style of Shakespeare, but I’m proud of this painting nonetheless. 61 x 51 cm
A fake Monet; one of many I did for the BBC TV series ‘The impressionists’. 110 x 80 cm
A fake Magritte. Who knows what was in his mind when he created his paintings, or in mine when I did this fake… 60 x 40 cm
An Art-deco painting done in the style of Tamara de Lempicka. 43 x 34 cm
A fake Canaletto – in other words a painting that he himself didn’t find the time to do. 71 x 91.2 cm
Van Gogh painted the church at Auver-sur-Oise several times, but he never painted this view of it from the south-west. I painted this in his style on the spot, as he would have done. It was energising and strange to paint in his style in a place that he knew well. It was painted with great reverence. He is buried close by.
A pointillist fake in the style of George Seurat. This shows Caudebec-en-caux in France. Pointillist paintings are crazily time-consuming. 91.5 x 71 cm
‘The Repentant Magdalen’, a fake in the style of George de la Tour. 80 x 65 cm
Another fake Monet, this time showing the eastern cliffs at Etretat. 92 x 71 cm
A fake in the style of Camille Pissarro. Being an impressionist he painted this scene in different weather conditions and I just added another to his series. 44 x 60 cm
An unfinished Leonardo study of an angel done for the BBC TV series on Leonardo to demonstrate the differences between oil and tempera painting techniques. Oil on panel, 90 x 57 cm
George Braque’s cubist paintings are evoked in this fake. 60 x 44 cm
Fake in the style of Amedeo Modigliani. 40 x 32 cm
Monet painted his famous Japanese bridge many times with many variations on the light and colouring; I just invented a new painting of this subject for him as he’s not doing any new ones now. Oil on canvas mounted on panel 1 x 91 cm
A fake in the style of George Stubbs showing Lord Elpus and his horse. 71 x 91.5 cm
… Gerard ter Borch was a 17th century Dutch painter; it’s in his style that I painted my friend here.
An invented painting in the style of Fernand Léger. 60 x 49 cm
A drawing by Edgar Degas turned into a painting. 36 x 26 cm
This is my version of one of Paulo Uccello’s famous paintings called ‘The Battle of San Romano’ done for a BBC TV programme on him. The original 580+ year old painting in London’s National Gallery is a sad wreck that’s been cut down, so I researched and imagined it as it would have been seen when new. 241 x 165 cm
A version of Vermeer’s original painting ‘The Concert’ which was stolen in 1990. The original was in poor condition so this inspired my interpretation or restoration of the painting back to how it would have looked when new. 72.5 x 64.7 cm
